This past Saturday, January 21st, hundreds of thousands of people participated in the Women’s March on Washington to champion women’s rights and LGBTQ+ rights, as well as to promote environmental protection, immigration reform and the Black Lives Matter movement. The march, which was held the day after President Trump’s inauguration, was organized in protest of Trump’s misogynistic, racist and divisive campaign rhetoric. Over 650 sister marches were held in 60 countries, where thousands of demonstrators rallied in solidarity to affirm that Trump’s politics of hate and division are not acceptable. According to The New York Times, nearly half a million people were present for the march in Washington, D.C., which is roughly three times more attendees than Trump’s own inauguration. The Women’s March is believed to be the largest inauguration protest in history, and the total number of protesters worldwide is estimated to have surpassed 3 million.
