Her Campus Marywood (HC): “What is your favorite thing about writing for Her Campus?”

Christiane Lowcher (CL): “I would say my favorite thing would have to be writing about the things that I am interested in and giving advice to those who may be experiencing stuff that I have in the past. It’s fun to be able to give a little piece of myself that people haven’t really seen. I just love to write about relationships, fashion, and other topics that I’m passionate about.”

HC: “What are your favorite topics to write about?”

CL: “Definitely relationships. I’ve had my fair share of bad relationships. Emphasis on the bad. *laughs* All jokes aside, I love to write about relationships because I am able to talk about certain things that I have gone through; I can give advice; or just talk about the good things that relationships have to offer. I also love writing about makeup and fashion because that has always been a big passion of mine.”

HC: “What else are you involved in on campus?”

CL: “I am the Captain of the first ever Women’s Golf Team at Marywood University. Being on my team has probably been one of the most rewarding feelings. They are like my second family and without them I wouldn’t be where I am right now. I’m forever thankful for my team. “

HC: “Who is your biggest inspiration?”

CL: “I have three. My mom, sister, and grandmother. They are my rocks. They provide me with strength, happiness, and inspiration everyday of my life. All three women have faced some tough challenges in the past, and they are stronger than ever. They’ve taught me some of the most valuable lessons I know right now. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am. I wouldn’t be where I am. These three women have gotten me through my toughest times. Through times that I didn’t think I would ever get through. They push me to be my best and do my best. I love them so, so much.”

HC: “What is one motivational quote that you live by?”

CL: “‘Some days are just bad days, that’s all. You have to experience sadness to know happiness, and I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day, that’s just the way it is!’ – Dita Von Teese. I love this quote because it reminds me that I am going to have bad days, it happens. No matter how bad things may get or how sad I may feel at times, happiness will come to me. This quote reminds me to remain positive, even when I am faced with negative situations. A second quote I live by is my drunken quote that I randomly thought of one night, “You just gotta be happy with your life!” Come on people, life is beautiful and you just gotta be happy with it!”

HC: “What is it like playing golf at Marywood?”

CL: “Playing golf at Marywood has been an extremely rewarding feeling. It’s truly an honor to be a part of this team. It’s great that I am able to continue playing the sport I have loved my entire life thanks to my dad. My father is the one that got me into golf and taught me everything I needed to know. He’s continued to push me to be the very best that I can be. I thank him every day for introducing this sport to me because it has shaped me into the young woman I am today. It challenges me, that’s for sure. Golf is a hard game and not many people realize that. Whenever I have a bad day on the course, I am just determined to be better the next time. My team is an amazing group of people. I have made unbreakable bonds with the girls and the guys on my team. Playing golf for Marywood has been a wonderful experience. I’m blessed to have such an awesome coach, and I will be forever grateful that Marywood decided to start a Women’s Golf my Freshman year. I’ve been able to do things that I never thought I would.”

HC: “What do you see as the benefits of playing a sport in college?”

CL: “Definitely the friendships you make. Like I said, I’ve formed some great friendships with not only the girls on my team, but also the guys. Also, getting to experience playing other teams is cool too. It’s really fun when you play other schools because you are able to meet new people and even gain new friendships you never thought you would. You definitely gain more Instagram followers and Snapchat friends, that’s for sure. Each year, my team and I go on a Spring Break trip. It’s an NCAA rule that we have to play at least one match while we are on our trip. It gives us the opportunity to play more experienced teams and it definitely challenges us to play better and to be better.”

HC: “What is the biggest lesson you have learned in your time at Marywood?”

CL: *Laughs*. “The honest truth? When you see a red flag in a relationship, no matter how much you love that person, leave. If there’s one thing I learned throughout my time here at Marywood, it’s that you can’t please everyone and it isn’t okay to change who you are in order for a person to want to be with you. You need to love yourself before you can love someone else. The biggest mistake I made was losing myself while trying to love another person. In the process, I lost a lot of amazing friends in my life and it was a mistake. But looking back on it, you live and you learn. Unfortunately, I’m a person that learns the hard way. I’ve learned other lessons, obviously. But because this was such a big part of my life and most of my college years, this is definitely the biggest lesson I have learned. But hey, you gotta kiss a bunch of frogs before you find your Prince, ladies! “
