Meet Eva De Leon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marymount chapter.

Name: Evangeline(Eva) De Leon

Year: Senior

Major/Minor: Health Sciences, Pre-Physical Therapy

Where are you from? Virginia Beach, VA

What activities are you involved in? I am a Student Ambassador in Undergraduate Admissions and a student assistant in the athletic training room. I also just finished my last season on the Marymount Women’s soccer team.

How has being an MU athlete shaped your Marymount experience? For the past four years I have had the opportunity to play on the women’s soccer team and being a student athlete at MU has been a HUGE part of my experience. My teammates, along with other student athletes, have become some of my closest friends and most of my memorable experiences were with these people. I also feel as if being a student athlete was my stepping stone into the Marymount community in which I became more involved. My sophomore year I started working in the athletic training room and became a Student Ambassador in Undergraduate Admissions. As a senior, I feel that I have become actively involved in the Marymount community and have accomplished so much along the way. I’ve also met a ton of great people that have influenced my experience here and I would want to thank everyone of them for helping me get to where I am today.

Most memorable moment at Marymount? My most memorable moment at Marymount was one early morning when I was late for practice. Practice started at 6am; I woke up at 6am… I frantically jumped from my top bunk and got ready in the dark because my roommate was still asleep, although I was far from being quiet. I ran down to the backfield only to realize that I couldn’t find any of my gear in my bag. I didn’t notice that my bag was open the whole way down from my room, so there was a trail of my things leading from the backfield all the way back to my dorm room in Rowley. On top of that, I only had one contact lens in because I lost my other one while I was getting ready. Fortunately, my coach was running late that morning and I was ready before she got there. Although, I was still half blind for the entire practice.

Most embarrassing moment? I was in the middle of Bernie’s and I bought one of those pre-made salads for lunch. I poured my salad dressing and wanted to mix it all together, so I put the top back on and began shaking it. I didn’t realize that my top wasn’t secure enough and the contents of my salad started flying around everywhere! I was so embarrassed picking up the pieces off the floor… Safe to say I haven’t bought one of those salads in a while.

What’s on your bucket list to do before you graduate? I would say “to see a cadaver”, but I actually crossed that off my list when my professor took us to the GWU anatomy lab last fall. Now, a few things I would have to say are…

  • complete a half marathon(which I am running in April!)
  • go to a Caps game
  • do all the touristy activities at the National Mall
  • go to the National Geographic Museum
  • go to the International Spy Museum
  • run the scenic route from campus into Georgetown

Do you prefer living on campus or off campus? Why? I lived on campus for three years, including two summers. Now, I live off campus and I would have to say that I prefer it. I like coming home after a long day of being in class and at work, making myself dinner or a snack and lounging on the couch with my roommates. I also enjoy the fact that I can play music as loud as I want to. :)

Plans after graduation? I plan on staying in the area and will be working in a Physical Therapy clinic over the summer. As for after the summer, I hope to do some traveling, possibly Australia( :) ), and continue working in a PT clinic until I venture off to get my Masters degree.

Advice for incoming freshmen? Be yourself. You’re going to come across a number of different people throughout your years in college and you shouldn’t change who you are to make someone else happy. Find people who like you for who you are and bring joy to your life. People say that college are the most formative years in your life, so why not spend it with people you enjoy being around and know you’ll have a great college experience with.
