Marymount has a reputation for being a style-conscious university, regardless of a student’s major. We’ve got it goin’ on!
A good sense for style is a life-long pursuit. It takes time. An effortless look doesn’t always come effortlessly. When thought is put into a person’s appearance, not only will they look good, but they will also feel more confident that day.
Coco Chanel once said, “A girl should be two things– classy and fabulous.” A true fashionista must dress the part. Create your own sense of style and fashion sense with these 5 tips and you’re sure to be noticed!

1. Know your comfort zone and push it.When you’re out shopping, try something on that you usually wouldn’t wear. You might be pleasantly surprised. Sometimes things on the hanger don’t look like “you” but when you try it on, it not only looks like “you,” but it looks good on you. The key is to experiment in the dressing room! You will eventually add flair to your wardrobe.

2. Pick a signature scent.
You can’t see a signature scent, but you can smell it. A pleasant, distinctive aroma adds to any outfit, whether it consists of basic pieces or something more upscale. It’s the finishing touch to your classic Y-O-U look and can also be a reflection of your personality. Have fun with it!

3. Accessorize. This is one of my personal favorite style tips. I personally love statement necklaces and have been on an earring kick lately. Hoop earrings were Gretchen Wieners’ thing, but large eye-catching studs are mine–I’ll let you wear them too, though. ;) A cute necklace, bracelet, scarf, ring, watch, and many other items will fabulously augment your outfit. It’s also well-known that most guys really like it when girls accessorize. It’s the feminine icing on the cake.
“Matching your hat to your shoe to your bag, or your necklace to your earrings, has a tendency to look dated. Mixing up your accessories adds interest to an outfit, and can make you look much more modern and polished.” – Stacy London

4. Dress for your body type.
There’s more advisory literature available on this topic than ever before, which is especially good for you budding fashionistas. Look into it! All of us have a certain shape. It’s important to accept it and dress for it! No matter what your figure is, there is a way to flatter it with good fashion. Compliments will be abound, too. Beautiful!
“Girls of all kinds can be beautiful – from the thin, plus-sized, short, very tall, ebony to porcelain-skinned; the quirky, clumsy, shy, outgoing and all in between. It’s not easy though because many people still put beauty into a confining, narrow box…Think outside of the box…Pledge that you will look in the mirror and find the unique beauty in you.” – Tyra Banks [pagebreak]
5. Don’t follow all of the trends. Create some of your own. Remember back in middle school when everyone wore Ugg boots? But, since everyone had to have them, no one was dressing in a truly unique way. Boring! Good fashion is what looks good on Y-O-U. Sometimes, this is different what everyone else is wearing, and, if so, so what?! Show people how awesome you feel about yourself by dressing the way you think makes you look your very best. Remember, trends in the fashion-world are ever-changing and constantly evolving. For example, owl jewelry, leggings, and jean jackets have been in and out of style so often that you can always wear them knowing that if they are “out,” your decision to wear them may be part of their comeback. Wear what you want, within reason!
“It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.” – Alexander McQueen
