YouTube Channels to Survive the Last Weeks Of The Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

It’s that time of year when my motivation is nowhere to be found.

The holiday season is so close, yet so far away, and the amount of assignments that are due before the sweet freedom that the holidays give us are steadily growing as everything comes to a close. But no matter how worn out we may feel, we should all try our best to finish the semester strong.

For those moments while doing homework when it seems like you’ve tried everything and are still confused, turning to online resources is an excellent strategy to get through all of those final papers, projects, and tests. My favorite resource for these times is YouTube. Below, I’ve listed 6 helpful YouTube channels to get you through the rest of the semester.

For all of the students who have been looking at math formulas so long that the numbers have started swimming in your vision, this YouTube channel is perfect for you. This math teacher makes videos on his channel ProfRobBob that explains various math concepts as he walks you through example problems. Whether you just need a refresher on simple math concepts or you have a very specific topic that you need clarity on, this teacher will be your new best friend.

We’ve all been assigned a book that we just can’t seem to understand no matter how many times we’ve reread it. The Thug Notes playlist from the WiseCrack YouTube Channel has over 100 videos that describe the events of commonly assigned literature in a way that’s fun and easy to understand. The books they cover range from classic Shakespearean to more contemporary books and just make studying more entertaining overall.

And of course I can’t forget to mention the holy grail of educational YouTube channels, CrashCourse. This channel has such a wide variety of topics that are covered and typically have animation dispersed throughout the video to make them more engaging. This channel makes confusing topics easy to understand with the interesting visuals and references to contemporary culture. With videos on Biology, Ecology, Literature, World History, and more, you’re bound to find something that fits your needs.

The Khan Academy YouTube channel is similar to the CrashCourse channel because of how many subjects it covers. These videos will give you the foundation you need to show up to your classes prepared and avoid feeling lost in class. In their videos, you are walked through every concept that they talk about with clear explanations to help you tackle your homework assignments.

This next YouTube channel is for the brave students who are learning a new language and need some additional clarification outside of class. The Innovative Language Learning channel is the main channel with 34 subchannels, each focusing on a particular language. With these channels as a resource, you will be one step closer to mastering any new language your heart desires.

The Motivation2Study channel is an honorable mention for those of us who just need that extra push of motivation. With videos containing motivational advice targeted specifically for students, this channel could be just what you need to get back on the daily grind.

My only warning for you is to be careful not to get sucked into the wormhole of off-topic YouTube videos, no matter how tempting it may be. I promise you will regret it in the morning. We’re in the final stretch of the semester. If we’ve made it this far, we can definitely finish strong.
