University of Maryland students with a few hours between their classes have many ways to spend their time, whether they want to get work done, grab lunch or take a break from school.

For junior government and politics major Manuel Perez, a two-hour break between classes is usually a chance to get some work done.

“I just find a seat somewhere in the Atlantic Building and then just study or do work,” Perez said.

Perez said the Atlantic Building is convenient because both of his classes are there. For students looking for another place to study, he recommends McKeldin Library.

“I typically like to rent out the carrells on the sixth or seventh floor and just spend time there,” he said.

For freshman atmospheric and oceanic sciences major Aaliyah Jamison, her two-hour breaks are usually a mix of eating, studying and relaxing.

Jamison usually eats at the beginning of her break. If she has an upcoming quiz or exam, she spends most of the time studying. Other times, she naps.

When she wants to get away from her usual study spots, Jamison likes going to 251 North.

“I really like how there’s like nobody ever in 251, especially midday,” Jamison said. “It’s got a Tuscan-like ambiance in that place, so it’s nice.”

Jamison also uses her breaks to explore campus. She enjoys going to the Farmers Market at Maryland on Wednesdays, where she recently bought a plant.

“I usually go alone,” Jamison said. “I feel like it’s the most fun that way because you can be in the moment.”

Cameron Cormier, a graduate student studying atmospheric and oceanic sciences, two to three hour-long breaks between classes. He usually uses that time to catch up on homework, prepare for teaching or study for labs and tests.

When he wants to take a break from schoolwork, Cormier goes to the Stamp Student Union.

“I usually will grab lunch from there,” Cormier said. “Sometimes I’ll go to the Quantum Cafe downstairs and I’ll grab a coffee.”

Cormier also likes walking around campus during his breaks. He said he enjoys seeing different parts of campus while he is getting from one place to another.

“I just got here not that long ago, so I haven’t had a super long time to explore,” he said. “But everywhere I’ve been so far, it’s been really cool.”

For students who have a long break between classes, the time does not always have to be spent sitting around waiting for the next class.

Students can use the time to study at McKeldin, grab food or coffee at Stamp, visit the farmers market, explore campus or just find somewhere quiet to relax.
