With only a few days until the fall semester ends, UMD students have already been thinking of how they want to utilize their winter break. Spending quality time with loved ones, traveling, and baking sweet treats are just some activities students prefer during this time of year, though they differ from student to student.

For some, winter break is a time to catch up and spend time with friends and family.

“My plans for winter break are to just catch up with my home friends,”  said Letters and Sciences freshman Alba Costa Lara.

For others, the holiday season means balancing both work and quality time with their loved ones.

“I am working during the December part of break and then taking a class in January and definitely catching up with everyone from home,” said Anna Schneider, a freshman operations management and business analytics and supply chain management major.

To be clear, both are totally acceptable and can make your winter break more meaningful and enjoyable, depending on your priorities and schedule.

For many students, the idea of going home after such an extended period is the best part of winter break.

“For winter break, I plan on traveling back home. As a student who’s not even from this continent, I’m excited to see my family and get away from the cold weather for a bit,” said international student and freshman bioscience major Fatmatta M’Bai.

Winter break looks different for every Terp. Whether they’re spending time with friends, family, or just by themselves, one thing is clear: UMD students are looking forward to making the most of their winter break.
