Transition Your Crop Top into Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

As we wind down to fall, we sadly have to swap out some of our favorite summer pieces with fall outfits. Now of course the fall requires many cute staples, like boots, sweaters, and stylish jackets, but they’re somewhat incomparable to cute shorts and lightweight skirts we freely wear without thermal protection in the summer. And with summer’s warm temperatures, we were able to show off the beloved crop top! Crop tops have earned V.I.P. status within the wardrobes of many, which means they should not hibernate simply because the weather is changing. Why compromise our stylish urges for cool temperatures when we can just create suitable styles for the fall weather?

1. Outward protection

Button down shirts and cardigans make fall fashion look easy. You can throw them over anything— camisoles, tanks, and even dresses— so should a crop top be any different? If you want to channel the 90s look that has been trending the past months, tie a plaid flannel shirt around your waist or place it over your shoulders. Chambray button downs are another stylish piece that stand out even more when paired with a crop top. Or you can wear a crop top with a cardigan to spice up the chill persona of the cardigan and add a bit more flair to the overall look!

2. High-Waist Jeans/Pants

Button downs and cardigans are nice and all, but a crop top ensemble is not cohesive without complementing bottoms to seal the deal. High-waist jeans/pants make all things right with the world when paired with a crop top. Of all the great characteristics high-waist jeans/pants hold, one main asset is that they reach up to the waist, therefore meeting the crop top half way while still leaving room for skin to show. With the right pieces, you can dress a simple crop top and high-waist outfit up or down depending on whether you are heading to class or out on the town with the girls for a fun night.

3. Long sleeve sweater crop top

Since the mix of crop tops and fall pieces fuses summer and fall trends, what better way to solidify the two than with a sweater crop top? Sweater crop tops are great because they create a healthy balance of fall and summer. You can put them with almost anything, look awesome, and still feel warm!

4. Layering

Cool weather calls for layering, making it possible for you to mix a lot of your favorite pieces together! Crop tops do not always have to reveal your stomach; you can still look fashionable by pairing a loose crop top over a dress, blouse, or even a button down. Layering also allows you to rock two looks at the same time. You can have a chic crop top over an edgy dress but still have a dynamic look that represents your diverse style.

5. Crop sweatshirts

We all have those days when getting cute for class is a painful task and all we desire is soft fleece to cover us from head to toe. Well we can still look and feel amazing with a crop sweatshirt! Crop sweatshirts are comfy and stylish all in one. So as you’re walking to class, you can feel fabulous and relaxed in a chill crop sweatshirt and simple leggings to get through the day.
