College Park is a great college town but it’s missing one thing: great shopping. While we have Cloud 9 and Rugged Warehouse, there are not really any other stores on Route 1 that girls can find a variety of clothes to look from. There is a lot of good shopping in Chinatown, Georgetown, and Pentagon City, but many people don’t know about the amount of thrift stores in the area.

On Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, conveniently located only 15 min from College Park, and just across the street from the Bethesda Metro Station on the Red Line, is a store called Mustard Seed Shop. Open seven days a week, this store is popular for women of all ages looking for vintage clothes. Offering jewelry and accessories less than 2 years old, and clothes from the 1950s-1970s, it has a large range of items to choose from. Its accessories particularly made an impression, offering a lot of long necklaces and cute dangling earrings that would be a nice touch for class or to dress up a going out outfit. They also have three racks of shoes that include casual shoes such as boots and flats and heels and wedges for night attire.

For Georgetown lovers, there is a great thrift store located here called Annie Creamcheese. Annie Creamcheese isn’t the typical thrift store, as it has a few locations around the country and offers vintage designer apparel as well. The price is a little bit more expensive than the typical thrift store, but the price is worth it in most cases. Dig around a little bit, check all the racks, and you could find something that’s designer yet quirky that could look cute dressed up with some accessories.

The last thrift store that is popular among D.C. residents is Meeps Vintage Fashionette, located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Northwest D.C. It is located just five blocks from the U Street Metro Station on the Green Line and it’s a quick 15-minute ride on the metro. When I visited this store I didn’t really know what I was going to find. Unlike the other two stores, its clothes are a lot more retro, meaning that you wouldn’t typically find someone walking around wearing their apparel on-campus. However, a lot of the clothes that they offer could be used for themed parties, or for pairing up with a more modern outfit. They offered a lot of button downs, washed up jeans, and tailored jackets.
