With a bright red stiletto, Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway take a step in the direction of their iconic roles as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs in the new movie “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

The upcoming sequel is bringing audiences back to the high-fashion world of Runway magazine, nearly two decades after the original became a blueprint of ambition, fashion and reinvention of pop culture for everyone in the early 2000s.

Released in 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” did more than just tell a story of a young journalist navigating the world of fashion journalism. It became a cultural touchstone revisited decades later.

The film turned Miranda Priestly into one of cinema’s most unforgettable bosses, making the editor a sharp, intimidating and endlessly quoted icon. Andy Sachs transformation from a skeptical assistant to a polished insider to the fashion world remains one of the most memorable makeover arcs in film.

The influence of the film stretches across fashion and media, helped in part by long running comparisons to Anna Wintour, Vogue former editor in chief and the glossy world of magazine publishing.

For those preparing for the sequel, consider this a mini Runway starter pack.

First and foremost, rewatch the original but pay attention to more than the glamorous clothes. Revisit the power dynamic between Andy and Miranda, Emily’s unforgettable one-liners and all the questions the film raises about ambition and success.

Second, let’s brush up on some fashion legacy. Fashion is what holds the film together — from its iconic Chanel boots to runway ready-to-wear coats. Revisiting old looks and fashion shows feels like studying fashion history at its finest.

As for what to expect, the sequel could bring us into a very different fashion era. While the first film explored the power of print magazines, this new chapter may tackle digital media, influencer culture and how luxury fashion has evolved.

And, of course, expect what made the original so iconic and beloved: its ambition, biting wit and high end glamour.

Whether you are a viewer returning for nostalgia, culture or just waiting for Miranda’s next iconic line, one thing is certain: Before stepping into the world of Runway, rewatch the classic, study the style and be ready.

That’s all.
