Stepping Out In Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

It’s that time of year again, where we shed our sweatshirts and start drinking in the sunshine. It’s finally springtime and with the warm weather here to stay it seems like all anyone wants to do is run around outside. As the temperature slowly begins to climb, more and more fabulous activities open up for us to enjoy. It is time to get up and be active and enjoy the great outdoors. Here are great ways to spend your sunny Saturday afternoon!

  1. How About Them O’s: Opening day for the Baltimore Orioles has come and gone which means Spring is not the only season we should be celebrating. It’s baseball season! Being at the University of Maryland, we are only about a half hour drive from the Orioles stadium in Baltimore. On top of that, according to the Orioles official website every Friday night is AT&T Student night, which means if you present you UMD ID at the box office your ticket only costs $6!

  1. D.C. Chillin’: There are so many wonderful opportunities to get out and active in D.C. From museums to shopping, there is a little something for everyone. If you are on a strict budget, you can take the metro into D.C. for a small fair and then visit pretty much any of the museums for free. Erin Patterson, a sophomore here at University of Maryland, says, “I love to go into D.C. whenever I get the chance. I actually went to the National Zoo this past weekend and had an absolute blast.” If you are more of a shopper, Georgetown has a great main street of shopping where you can window shop and grab a cupcake while you’re at it.
  2. Rock Out!: With a number of famous concert venues in the UMD area, there is bound to be a great concert this spring with your name on it. Merriweather Post Pavilion is a great option with outdoor grass seating. According t their website, the Sweetlife festival featuring headliners such as Passion Pit and Kendrick Lamar, is coming to Merriweather on May 5th. If you can’t make it to that one, you may want to check out one of Maryland’s biggest traditions, the 2013 Preakness. According to www.preakness.com, on May 18th (the day of the Preakness) there will be live music to go along with the race!
