Stay Classy, College Park

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

It’s easy to say that College Park attire is typically not the same as real life attire. Crop tops, back bearing tanks, band t-shirts and the smallest of skirts are found everywhere on Route 1, something you may not usually see in the clubs of DC or NYC. News to the students of UMD, however, is that you still can be classy even if we are in a college town that used to have a set pair of shoes gross enough to bear “The Vu”. Returners Danielle and Allie show us how to dress classy yet fashionable whether just going down the road for a nice dinner or for a night out on the town.

The nice part about being in College Park is that we are right in the middle of DC, Annapolis and Baltimore. Something even nicer is that we have a new set of restaurants right down the road including Azteca, Busboys & Poets, and Tara Thai. These newest locations allow for a chance to dress up and go to a nice dinner but still on a college budget. If you want to make your meal a little bit nicer, try dressing up for the occasion like Allie did here. It doesn’t involve much effort, just a nice cardigan, simple tank, black jeans and low-heeled booties. A long necklace like the one she pairs with this is the perfect accessory for an otherwise plain ensemble. This is the best outfit for a night out to dinner because it is comfortable, classy and clean.

Bag – Foley & Corinna
For a night out to the bars, Danielle wears a nicer outfit that is just the right amount of classy for College Park. Her top is a fine sheer fabric, but being $25 from Tobi, it is not the type of top you have to worry about spilling your red drink on. With holes in the shoulders, the long sleeve shirt still shows a little skin, something quite prominent for our college town. On bottom, a nice pair of black jeans helps dress up any outfit and ties in perfectly with the black and white in her top. The close-toed booties are also plain and ideal, especially for the colder nights. Something I especially love about this look is the red bag. Such a basic outfit in terms of color could use a little spicing up and this red bag does just the trick. It doesn’t have to be the color red you use; with spring coming around, try utilizing a bright yellow or turquoise purse to make it fit with the season.
