It’s that time of year to break out soft silky scarves, big comfy knit sweaters, and warm up with your favorite coffee. When you’re set with the best accessories, it’s important not to forget your body! Cold weather makes skin dry and hair brittle and dull. Take some of these tips to keep looking naturally radiant and bright through the winter frost!
Stay Hydrated
A pretty simple thing, but your daily eight 8-oz cups of water can go a long way. Drinking water throughout the day will keep your skin soft and removes toxins and other chemicals built up from junk food, caffeine, etc. This will also help prevent you from feeling groggy after a few snacks and sodas.
Warm, not hot
When it’s cold outside, hot steamy showers are what everyone looks forward to. However, be careful before you turn that knob to the hottest temperature. Studies have shown that hot showers will make skin lose its hydration and produce that “tight” dry feeling; a warning saying your skin is drying out! Lock in your body’s water and opt for warm showers, then pat your skin dry. Don’t forget to apply lotion to your body after you shower!
Bright and White Nails
For ladies who love manicures, you’ll notice that cold winds will make the skin around your nails dry and cracked. Prevent this by carrying a small tube of lotion in your bag for multiple applications throughout the day, especially after you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Give yourself a super moisture boost by applying Vaseline to your nails before you sleep.
Keeping the lips juicy
Lips that look smooth and soft can add an instant plus to your daily look. Winter winds make lips dry and cracked, not to mention painful! Help your lips to some healthy balm and use that generously.
Zzz’s
Sleep is something that can be used year-round for that healthy, energetic look. Beauty sleep will help your skin look fresh and free of dark circles, thanks to the chemicals that form while we get some shuteye. Staying up for exams or parties may be a good idea at the time, but your skin will show effects if you don’t catch up on sleep! Pick a day of the week to designate as your “sleep in” morning.
Golden Locks
Now that your hair is finally reviving itself after months of swimming in chlorine, it’s time to care for your hair against the harsh weather. Hair gets generally drier with the lack of moisture in the winter air. Be generous with soaking in conditioner, getting regular trims, and fully drying your hair before stepping out of the door to prevent split ends. As always, protect your hair with specialized sprays when you straighten or curl your hair. Going from hundred of degrees to almost freezing is painful to your hair!
