How to Throw the Best Friendsgiving Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! The leaves are turning colors, it’s getting chilly outside and you’re starting to study for finals. The best way to cope with all those symptoms is to have your friends over for a super fun Thanksgiving dinner!

Whether you want a small get together with your besties or have an open house, you’ll need some pointers! Here are some key tips to having the most amazing Friendsgiving.

1. Decorations

Fall decorations are so fun and can last from October through the middle of December.  All you need are a few pumpkins, some leaf-themed napkins and cups, and a pumpkin scented candle.  The $1-$5 section in Target is a great place for seasonal decorations, as well as the dollar store! On the other hand, if you have already moved on from fall and your winter decorating starts November 1, feel free to put up a tree and some snowflakes. No judgment here.

2. Dinner

Arguably the most important part of Thanksgiving is the dinner.  You probably can’t and don’t want to cook a Turkey in your dorm, so consider a rotisserie chicken if you really want the feel of a roast turkey.  But a better idea is to just go with the best part: sides. In my professional opinion, as someone who has attended nearly 20 Thanksgiving dinners, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and stuffing are what the people really want.  You can either have everyone over early to cook together, or have everyone bring their favorite side dish with them for a potluck!

3. Dessert

Presumably you just ate an absurd amount of mashed potatoes and can barely move.  But maybe you have just enough room in your tummy for one slice of pie. This doesn’t have to be too fancy. Just buy a premade apple or pumpkin pie, and whipped cream. It’s the easy way to go.

4. Movies

What’s the best way to end Friendsgiving? By falling asleep on the couch to a good movie! Some people claim you can’t watch holiday movies until after Thanksgiving, but those people are wrong.  Break out every movie you can find, hit up the library, or just stick with trusted Netflix and binge watch your favorite holiday movies with your besties!
