Last Tuesday Dec. 2, several sorority and fraternity houses in Old Town found odd notes at their door. The notes were written on the back of a photo, which also included text.

Sophomore Noa Kitov was one of the Old Town residents who found the note outside of her sorority house. She said she went through the camera footage and noticed that the strange male who dropped the note off at her door happened to drop it off a mere five minutes before she arrived back home.

“I didn’t think much of it or even read it at first. I honestly thought it could’ve been an invitation from a frat for something, but once I saw the picture and read the note I was like, ‘Is this a threat?’ Then we heard that other houses got notes and then I figured something was off,” said Kitov.

The reported notes each contained  similar messages and were all delivered by the same strange male. The text read various coordinates based in Cartersville, Ga. and said “photo taken from iPhone in F150.” On the back of the photo, it said “Bring it to me someday and I’ll sign it.”

Sophomore finance and economics major Meera Rathod was shaken up by the incident, but relieved by the community’s quick response.

“It was honestly kind of creepy to see that a random guy was coming up to where we live to drop off such vague and suspicious notes, but it was also kind of comforting to know that the second we got a note we checked in with our friends in houses nearby and they too checked in with us. Everyone in this community just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of what was going on and was okay,”said Rathod.

While it is unclear what the purpose of this note is, Rathod believed that it provided an important reminder. “It is just a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings and to check in on people in your community.

Hi! I'm Isa and I'm currently a sophomore in the Philipp Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. I attended high school in Evanston, IL, where I worked on the school newspaper and participated in varsity volleyball. During my high school career I was able to experiment with sports photography and videography and ended up creating content for the athletics department and yearbook. I also took my interest with videography and co-created a mini series for the school newspaper, The Evanstonian. A fun fact about me is that my AP video teacher in high school was the first person to help me get an internship with IL. State Representative La Shawn K. Ford as social media/marketing intern!
