Her Campus’ Favorite College Park Cocktails

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

As a newly legal 21-year-old on campus, I wanted to broaden my knowledge of cocktails by traveling to different bars and restaurants around College Park to try Her Campus Maryland’s favorite drinks that were submitted to the chapter instagram. I visited Cornerstone Grill & Loft, Looney’s Pub and Terrapin’s Turf to try a variety of different cocktails and drinks to find my favorite. Here is our list!

Looney’s Pub

Orange Crush Bucket

As University of Maryland students, one of the most common and loved drinks in the area is Looney’s Pub’s orange crush bucket. This drink is a mixture of Smirnoff Orange, Triple Sec, Sprite and orange juice all in a 32 ounce bucket. The orange crush bucket is one of my favorites, especially on Thursday nights when it is half price. While great on its own, the orange flavor can sometimes clash with some of Looney’s great foods. If you are looking to switch up from this College Park classic, I recommend trying the Strawberry Eddy cocktail that is a mixture of Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, strawberry puree, lemonade and Sprite.

Terrapin’s Turf

Fish Bull

As an avid fishbowl lover, I was eager to try this Her Campus favorite. This combination of vodka, Red Bull, Peach Schnapps and grenadine comes in two sizes: 32 ounces and 96 ounces. While this drink was the perfect amount, I did not love it as much as I had hoped. The fruity flavor tastes amazing and is definitely something that kept me wanting more. However, as someone who tries to stray away from a ton of Red Bull, this drink had a little more caffeine than I am used to. Overall I would drink this again, but I prefer their Blue Wave fishbowl.

Frozé

Frozen drinks are usually my preferred cocktail however this drink was my least favorite of all the ones I have tried. It started out strong with a great taste and perfect consistency, but my love for this drink dwindled as time went on. As someone who is not a usual wine lover, perhaps that is where this drink failed in my book. This cocktail combines frozen rosé and vodka to create a pink colored frozen drink. I recommend wine lovers try this drink, but personally I am going to stick to their fishbowls or rail drinks.

Cornerstone Grill & Loft

Watermelon Wave

Out of all of the drinks I tried, this one is definitely my favorite. With a mix of Malibu Watermelon, coconut cream, Bacardi and both pineapple and watermelon Red Bull, this drink ties in all of my favorite flavors in one to closely mimic Sour Patch Watermelons. The addition of the coconut cream and Red Bull allows this drink to feel like you are relaxing on the beach without the usual drowsy feeling that sometimes comes with cocktails. Because this is one of Cornerstone Grill & Loft’s signature cocktails, it is on the pricier side. I recommend trying this drink as a treat alongside their cheaper rail drinks.
