“DJs don’t dance no more, they sit,” Harry Styles sings in his third single, “Dance No More,” from his new album.
Well, that sure was not the case for Styles during his historic 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of his Together, Together tour. I attended night 20 of 30 on Oct. 9, and here is how it went.
Styles has won 37 awards and 70 nominations over his solo career, and 50 awards and 37 nominations as a member of the iconic 2010s boy band One Direction, according to IMDb.
Styles’ new album “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally,” or KISSCO as some fans call it, is a rich synth-pop, disco-inspired album that explores themes of love, loss and self-growth. With singles such as “Aperture,” “American Girls,” “Dance No More” and “Coming Up Roses,” the album truly reaches all genres.
In May, Styles began his residency tour in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, then made stops in various big cities “all over the world,” such as São Paulo, Brazil, and Mexico City, Mexico. He will end his 2026 tour with stops in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, in November and December.
Throughout the tour, Styles has broken multiple records, including a 12-show sold-out residency at Wembley Stadium in London, England, breaking Coldplay’s record of 10 shows. But his most impressive achievement is his 30-show sold-out residency at Madison Square Garden, breaking his own record with a 15-night run in 2022.
The night started with opener Jamie xx. He had an hour-long DJ session that set the standard for what the rest of the night was going to look like. Then, as Jamie xx was finishing up, the core backing band of Styles’ show entered the stage.
A familiar beat started to play, the first notes of Styles’ “Dance No More.” Styles ran onstage, ensuring he reached every corner of the arena, blowing kisses, giving thanks and showing off his moves, as fans screamed at the top of their lungs.
The show continued with hit songs from the past decade, including “Adore You,” “Watermelon Sugar,” “As It Was” and the iconic ballad that launched his solo career, “Sign of the Times.” He ended with his first solo single of the KISSCO era, “Aperture,” after a 10-minute DJ session.
Harry Styles did not disappoint; his energy on stage was unmatched and truly made the night special.
