Chris Riggs: Future Wall Street Exec

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Chris Riggs

Year: Senior

Major: Business/Finance

Hometown:  Bowie, MD

Chris is a senior, business major with a concentration in finance. In June, he plans to move to New York City where he has accepted a job as trader for Merrill Lynch.

What are you involved in on campus?

President of the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA), Member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (Business School), Alpha Kappa Psi (Business Fraternity)

You’re a senior! Congratulations. Tell us about your plans for your last year.

After graduation I’ll be working on Wall Street as a trader at Merrill Lynch in New York

What part of NYC will you be living in?

I honestly haven’t really started looking yet, but definitely in Manhattan hopefully near the office. I like the Herald Square/Times Square area a lot.

So, what the rest of your semester looking like?

Pretty chill. I’m done with all of my extra-curricular involvements and I’m just taking the bare minimum required classes I need to graduate. So much for being an overachiever.

What were your favorite memories at UMD?

There are so many. One would have to be sneaking into Byrd Stadium with a couple of my friends. One person didn’t realize that there was an easier way than jumping over the fence. They fell and gashed their hand open and ultimately made a complete fool of themselves. I won’t say who it was (it might have been me).

Any regrets? We don’t mind the details.

Haha sounds crazy but I would say moving from North Campus too early. After freshman year, I was done living there but looking back I think I definitely took the community building aspect for granted.

What do you like to do for fun?

Intramural sports like flag football and basketball. I also enjoy reading.

If you could switch lives (just for a day) with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Mark Cuban. He gets to work with startups and listen to business pitches all day AND he gets to watch basketball games for a living

Will you be dating once you’re in NYC? Tell us about your relationship status.

I’m in a relationship now and plan to be after graduation.

Any relationship advice you’d like to give?

Have patience and never force anything. When the right person comes along at the right time, both of you will know.

Please spit a quick rhyme about yourself (because three word description words are getting kinda boring).

This would not be good for anybody, Haha!
