Best Food Venues in CP for all Palates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

The campus dining halls offer a good amount of choices, but there’s no doubt about it– picking from the same handful of options gets boring, especially when the food isn’t of the greatest quality. But here’s the good news: it’s getting warmer, and there are a ton of great places not far from campus that are easy to get to. Whether it’s by foot, bus, rollerblades, etc., these eateries will satisfy your taste buds, whatever they’re craving, and make the extra distance so worth it.

1. Aroy Thai–

Thai is one of my favorite types of cuisines, and this restaurant does it better than any other establishment in College Park! The menu features a ton of selections, and the chefs put their own spin on traditional vegetable, noodle and curry dishes with fresh ingredients and unique combinations. The food definitely lives up to its name (Aroy means “delicious” in Thai), so you won’t be disappointed. And the best part: they deliver.

2. Kiyoko Express

The Diner on North Campus has sushi once in awhile, but Kiyoko makes this delicious option available all the time. Each order is made fresh and service is always prompt. And they’re not just known for their sushi– entrees like Teryiaki Chicken and Hibachi Steak are among their most popular orders that have customers coming back for more.

3. Busboys and Poets

Created as a “community gathering place,” this unique eatery is known for more than just its food. The restaurant’s low-key atmosphere is perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family, even if it’s a bit farther away from campus. If you’re willing to wake up early on a weekend, be sure to come here for breakfast or brunch, because their omelets are especially egg-celent.

4. Jason’s Deli–

The huge amount of variety of soups, salads and sandwiches makes this deli a great alternative to the salad or sandwich station at the dining halls. Their menu caters to people who are vegetarians, gluten-free or more health-conscious. Options like the Mediterranean Wrap show that you don’t have to sacrifice taste to be healthy. The salad bar is unlimited and ice cream is free with your meal. What more could you ask for?

5. Slices Pizza Co.

Any restaurant guide is incomplete without a good pizza joint, and in CP, Slices is the way to go. This place has the classics: cheese, pepperoni, white, etc., but it’s the deep dish and gourmet pizzas that set it apart from the many other places in the area. It’s the perfect late-night option, and you’ll always get your money’s worth. Plus, they serve mac n’ cheese on pizza. Enough said.
