If your winter break plans are to binge-watch “One Tree Hill” from the beginning for the millionth time, perhaps consider trying something a little different for your entertainment with what else than a nice, classic….BOOK!

There is nothing I love more than reading an amazing book while drinking tea! It is relaxing and it is a better pre-bedtime ritual than scrolling mindlessly through Twitter. I know it may seem archaic but I think reading is fun–especially in the 21st century when we can use Audible or Kindle Apps!

Check out these fun picks to browse over our long break:

1. Saint Anything — Sarah Dessen

Nothing says high school throwback like a good Sarah Dessen novel! Saint Anything was released this summer and follows the story of Sydney, who is adjusting to a new school and new home life. I love Sarah Dessen with all my heart and she has an extensive list of books, two of which are the basis of the movie How To Deal! If you want a quick, entertaining read this is a great choice.

2. Why not Me? — Mindy Kaling

For a glimpse into the personal life of one of TV’s funniest ladies, this is a perfect choice. A companion to her biography Is Everyone Hanging out With Me? (And Other Concerns), this book covers Kaling’s adulthood. If you need some inspiration to get you geared up for the spring semester, this may be what you need.

3. The Catcher in the Rye — J.D Salinger

If you’re like me you are still hoping that this classic might someday get a film adaptation. Until then, you can relieve the angsty New York adventures of Holden Caulfield! Try and spot why this book was banned from middle schools.

4. The Bazaar of Bad Dreams: Stories — Stephen King

Stephen King is known for writing the most intricate and terrifying stories of the past three decades. The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is a new collection of short stories with a morbid theme. This is a great option if you start to grow tired of the festivities of the holidays.

5. See Me — Nicholas Sparks

The man behind some of our favorite romance books and movies is back again! This time the bad boy is Colin and the good girl is a lawyer named Maria. Read this after a Sparks movie marathon and you’ll be counting down the days till a See Me movie trailer is released.
