Living the Greek Life with Jack Stonesifer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marshall chapter.

You may or may not know the name, but if you’ve hung out around campus enough or attended any Greek life event, we’re sure you’ve seen this face! Jack Stonesifer, a senior from Rockville, MD., has been deeply involved in Greek life during his time here at Marshall University. Jack is former president of Alpha Tau Omega, served on the Interfraternal Council for two years and has been involved with many other organizations on campus!I got the chance to sit down and get to know Jack a little better by finding out other organizations that he’s been involved with on campus, as well as what he likes to do in his spare time!

HC: What activities have you been involved in during your years at Marshall?

Jack: I think the better question might be what haven’t I been involved with at Marshall? As a freshmen, I was a vocal performance major and was a member of the Marshall Chamber Choir and Choral Union and my sophomore year I was VP of Logistics for Marshall’s Relay for Life. This summer I finished up a year and a half term as President of Alpha Tau Omega and I was also on the Interfraternal Council (IFC) the governing body for the fraternities for two years as VP of Scholarship & Education then VP of Recruitment and Retention.

HC: What are you involved with on campus currently?

Jack: Currently, I am serving as Alumni and Parent Relations Officer as well as a Founding Member of the Marshall Fraternal Values Society.I’m also a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard and I’m in my 4th year on the Board of Directors for the Campus Christian Center, where I’m the only student with the rest of the BOD being members of the greater Huntington Community. [I am] also interning with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and am a member of the WV Veteran’s Coalition to help advocate for Veteran’s rights and issues in the WV senate and house of delegates.

HC: Why were you interested in interning with Greek life on campus?

Jack: I was interested in being involved with Greek life on campus because I’ve had a lot of experience through IFC, [as well as] my experience with my chapter, that I could help mentor Greeks, or any student leader, about the issues and pitfalls of running student groups.

HC: What goals do you have through/with your internship?

Jack: To help make a positive change when it comes to the Greek life at Marshall [as well as] have over 30 alumni come to ATO’s initiation this coming semester, speaking to all the alumni and letting them know how the Marshall chapter is doing.

HC: What is your favorite thing about Greek life here at Marshall University?

Jack: My favorite thing about Greek life is the bond that is created through the mutual experience that everyone has here. Not just ATOs, but how I’ve become close with [Other Fraternities on campus.]I hope that everyone at Marshall will consider Greek Life at Marshall, look past the stereotypes that people are shown in pop culture and realize that with 20 different Greek organizations at Marshall anyone can find their place and belong somewhere.

HC: And lastly, what do you do with your spare time when you’re not working with Greek life on campus?

Jack: Spare time, what’s that? When not working with organizations on campus, you can either find me at my apartment cooking and watching Netflix or napping in the Greek Office in-between classes.

Next time you see Jack on campus, be sure to give him a high-five and a smile for all he does!

My name is Andrea and I'm a senior journalism major at Marshall University! My interests range from photography, to drinking LOTS of coffee, to just hanging out at my apartment with my dog, Louie.
