Season’s greetings to all those that rightfully adore autumn! According to astronomers, the season begins following the autumnal equinox, which occurred this year on the 22nd of September. While this scientific clarification is greatly appreciated, the fall season can’t truly begin without October. To properly embrace the coming of autumn, here are some reminders of why this month never disappoints.

The Weather

Say farewell to summer heat and humidity. October brings refreshing breezes along with the crisp scent of decaying leaves. Temperature drops allow a cooling transition to awaken the senses. An absence of temperature extremes creates an ideal environment for enjoying the outdoors.

The Clothes

Flannels, boots, sweaters, oh my! Layers are finally a necessary decision. Warm colors of red and orange decorating the trees can inspire your wardrobe. Plaid prints, scarves, and tights are a must. The added coziness of everyday wear will improve overall comfort and hopefully attitudes! For those not too crazy about shaving, fall attire offers an opportunity to skip and save shower time.

The Food

Warm food and drink are essential additions to the season. Hot apple cider, crumbly pies, and spiced soups can ease the soul. There are countless recipes that make use of nuts, squash, cranberries, and sweet potatoes. Whether you like it or not, no autumn season is complete without the favorable mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, and cloves—most commonly referred to as pumpkin spice.

The Décor

Decorating a lawn, apartment, or dorm can give life to any space. Pumpkins, fall wreaths, scarecrows, and hay bundles are recurring themes. This is a great chance to test DIY crafting skills. An extra candle or two can transform any room into a cozy and relaxing environment. A couple adornments here or there always have favorable impacts on a seasonal experience.

The Activities

Apple picking, hayrack rides, carving pumpkins, and visiting haunted houses are only a few of the numerous activities best completed in October. The month is an ideal time for bonfires, nature hikes, corn mazes, backyard football games, and leaf collages. Taking breaks in a busy schedule to savor autumn’s simple delights will lead to a renewed spirit.

The Holidays

Halloween ends the month with costume parties and trick-or-treating. This gives everyone an excuse to showcase a creative side or alter ego. The Day of the Dead, or el Día de los Muertos,

also begins on the 31st of October. These holidays provide time for family and friends to celebrate together and reflect upon the positive changes that come as things cycle like the seasons.
