Resolve to Stop Making Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marquette chapter.

Resolve to Stop Making Resolutions

With Thanksgiving gone and Christmas creeping up on the calendar book, it is safe to say that the holidays are in full swing. The holiday season seems to end with New Year’s- a time where people pledge to lose weight, smile often, learn a language and overall better themselves.

The traditional New Year’s resolution is idiotic.

People should not limit themselves to the end of a holiday season to invest in themselves. First of all, a lot of people decide to lose weight because “that’s what everyone else is doing.” Without a true commitment to change, you will ultimately come up short. Second, and most importantly, people wait around and fill their lives with excuses as to why they feel a need to wait until New Year’s to make a change. If something in your life needs a makeover, start today.

You are a valuable and beautiful soul. You deserve to invest time in yourself. You deserve to be happy.

Bettering yourself is not greedy. It is a good thing to do. You are not taking away from others by putting a smile on your own face.

I repeat- you are not taking away from others by putting a smile on your own face.

Do not wait to make this change. You deserve to be able to change the direction your life is going in at any time. You are the pilot of your own life. Steer in whatever direction you please. If you want to make a change there is no need to wait. There is no need to be in sync with your coworkers. Everyone is different. People need different things at different times.

Audition for that play- TODAY.

Make your life worth living today. Make yourself happy. You come first. You don’t need to put off a fulfilling life to 2017.
