How Detox Skin after Halloweekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marquette chapter.

Whether it is costume makeup, splashes of fake blood, a lack of sleep, or too much candy, your skin takes a beating around Halloween. Here is a simple DIY facial to bring your skin back to life after celebrating the holiday of the dead.

For this facial, you only need two ingredients! Seriously, it cannot get any easier than that. The most important piece of the puzzle is clay—Calcium Bentonite clay, that is. You can find this on Amazon or at Target. One of my favorite brands is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, which retails for about ten bucks on Amazon. This stuff lasts forever, so your money is well spent. The second ingredient is apple cider vinegar. Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is the brand I’ve always relied on. This stuff can be found at almost any grocery store. Plus, you can use it for basically anything—salad dressings, detox drinks, facial toner, hair rinses, foot calluses, etc. Now that you have your two ingredients, it’s time to get mixing!

Scoop a tablespoon or two of clay powder into a bowl or shallow jar. Slowly add teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to the bowl and stir until the mixture becomes a thick paste. Bubbling and fizzing are normal. If it gets too thick, you can add a few drops of water or more apple cider vinegar to thin out the consistency. When your special mix is ready, apply it to a freshly washed face (using warm water will help you open your pores). Spread the green mask in a thin layer over your face, focusing on areas where breakouts are most common. Leave it on until it hardens—which will take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes—then wash it off. Apply generous amounts of moisturizer, and you are done!

Keep in mind that detox facials are meant to draw out impurities and dry out breakouts. If you have sensitive skin, test the mask on a patch first. Have fun playing around with the ratio. It is the Halloween season, so enjoy making this green, witch-like face potion!
