Go Beyond Convenience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marquette chapter.

Go Beyond Convenience

I came across an article on Facebook the other day that wrote about things that are slowly ruining your life without you realizing it. The author pointed out how we feel as though we need to rush to certain milestones in our lives, and because of this, we often settle for the convenient job or relationship. For the most part, I agree.

Oftentimes, we choose to study a major in college that will monetarily benefit us but will not be a job we enjoy. Why? Usually because we feel we need to have a ‘real’ job straight out of college. After, we feel we need to be married and have children, because these are the milestones perpetuated by society. Why is it that we think we need to reach these milestones all within the first ten years after college? It is unhealthy to settle for a relationship just because it will allow you to reach your milestone of being married before you are 30 years old. You deserve better than that. You need to go beyond convenience. Push yourself to find a job that you actually enjoy. Find a relationship that makes you ridiculously happy where you can’t imagine yourself with anyone else. Don’t settle. Strive for your dream career and relationship. Because when you find that job or relationship, it will be so fulfilling and worth it.
