9 Ways To Say You Love Someone

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marquette chapter.

It’s always the “little things” that matter the most.

I have only been on this Earth a mere nineteen years. That’s barely enough to call myself an adult, let alone an expert in any given subject; yet, I believe have been here long enough to know what love is.

I know that it is something that cannot be defined, and comes in all different shapes and sizes, sounds and colors, contexts and processes. Moreover, it doesn’t just come in the form of those three little words (“I love you”), and oftentimes, it’s the things that we don’t say that mean the most or are considered to be the “grandest acts of love.”

Here are 9 ways to say you love someone without ever uttering a word:

  1. Make them a playlist (put into music what you can’t put into words)

  2. Bring them coffee or tea (literally “keep them warm”)

  3. Text them good morning CONSISTENTLY (don’t just tell them they’re the first thing you think of when you wake up, actually show them!)

  4. Paint something for them (my best friend did this for me when I was going through a bit of a rough patch, and I nearly cried at how thoughtful it was)

  5. Send them something that makes you laugh (and then explain it to them after, if you’re like me and have the most obscure sense of humor imaginable)

  6.  Bring them a jacket if it’s cold out (even if they already brought one, it’s the thought of their well-being that counts)

  7. Guest swipe them (hahahaha unless they’re also on the meal plan! Another fun option is to order them Uber eats or something fun like that)

  8. Text them throughout the day asking if they need anything (make sure you’re free in case they do!)

  9. Write them a little note and leave it somewhere they can find it later (can be as simple as ”You rock!”)
