Summer is quickly approaching and for some of us that means spending hours relaxing in the sun. A great companion to laying out in the sun is a compelling book to read. Here are some recommendations for novels to read this summer.

1. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

We Were Liars is a compelling contemporary novel that takes place throughout multiple summers. Cady and her family spend summers on a private island and drama ensues. This is one of those novels where the less you know about it, the better.

2. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

The Girl on the Train is a thrilling and dark novel about a woman named Rachel who takes the train everyday and one day she sees something startling, leading to her becoming entangled with the police and the aftermath of what she saw. This novel is becoming a movie which will be in theaters in October.

3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You is a dramatic romance novel that follows a woman named Lou and a man named Will. The two meet when Will gets in a bad motorcycle accident and Lou becomes his caretaker. Me Before You is also becoming a movie, to be released in June.

4. Paper Towns by John Green

If you didn’t see the movie adaptation of Paper Towns last summer, or still want to read the novel after seeing it, this book is a great summer read. It follows a boy named Quentin, who is pining after a girl named Margo when one day she suddenly disappears. This book follows Quentin’s search for her.

5. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Passenger is a science fiction novel that involves time travel. It follows Etta and Nicholas’ journey through different centuries and across continents in search for a stolen object that belongs to a powerful family.
