10 Songs That Saved My Motivation This Semester

Prior to starting classes as a freshmen at Marquette, I was always known as the person who got good grades without having to try very hard. Being here has made me realize I’m not the “genius” I very wrongly thought I was.

I am a huge fan of music, so it’s not a shock that I made a playlist to motivate me as finals week approaches. Here are my top ten songs that motivate me to study along with my favorite lyrics from that song:

1) Bloom by The Paper Kites: “When the evening pulls the sun down, And the day is almost through, Oh, the whole world it is sleeping, But my world is you”

2) Sleep on the Floor by The Lumineers: “If the sun don’t shine on me today. And if the subways flood and bridges break, Will you lay yourself down and dig your grave or will you rail against your dying day?”

3) Here for You by Chris Mathieu: “If you’re lost, if you don’t know how to find your way through, always know that I’m here for you”

4) Fire and Rain  by James Taylor: “I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end. I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought that I’d see you again”

5) Ophelia by The Lumineers: “Honey I love you, that’s all she wrote”

6) Carry On by Fun: “Though I’ve never been through hell like that I’ve closed enough windows to know you can never look back”

7) Everything by Michael Bublé: “And you’re the perfect thing to say”

8) Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran: “And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real. We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill”

9) It’s Time by Imagine Dragons: “The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell right to the top. Don’t look back”

10) Gale Song by The Lumineers: “So when you hear my voice, and when you say my name, may it never give you pain”
