Panic! At the Disco Songs That Describe College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Emo rockers/pop-punk cool kids/overall musical chameleons Panic! at the Disco released their fifth album, Death of a Bachelor recently after months of anticipation and pre-released tracks. After giving a listen to the album, you may find that a few of the tracks describe most college experiences to a T, whether you have roommate issues or can’t figure out what happened after that night out. Whether that’s a result of the crazy nature of the band or Brendon Urie looking back on his life we may never know, but with the influences of legends such as Frank Sinatra and Queen, there’s no doubt the new tracks are better than ever!

‘Victorious’- When your pregame/weekend is strong

There’s nothing like a good pregame to get you ready for a great night out, and Victorious proves that! From its upbeat tune to the crazy-fun lyrics (“Tonight we are victorious-Champagne pouring over us-All my friends were glorious-Tonight we are victorious!’), Victorious is a great dancing track that gets you in the mood for a fun time, and that makes it perfect for getting ready for some debauchery with your best pals!

‘Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time’- When you don’t know (or remember) what happened last night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sRjxi2Dk-8

After the craziness of Victorious ensues, you’ll know you had an amazing night with Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time! This track is 100% relatable to any college student who has had too many at the bar. Let’s just hope your night doesn’t end like Brendon’s, or you’ll end up in trouble!

‘Hallelujah’- When you turn your life around and become a strong, independant woman!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxYyHHR0Q1c

Owning up to your mistakes is hard, but knowing that you’ll be stronger because of it makes it all worth-while. Talking it out with someone can help, but you have to be the one to realize what you did was wrong and you have to, as Cady Heron would say, “suck the venom out” of a sticky situation. When listening to this song, you’ll learn to leave the past behind and improve on yourself, which is the greatest thing you can do!

‘LA Devotee’- When you’re missing home

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh6GSAO04dM

No matter how amazing your college is, nothing can compare to the place where your heart is- home! Wheater your home is LA, the East Coast or somewhere in between, nothing beats the feeling of seeing your parents, friends and bedroom after a long semester. No matter how amazing your college is, there’s (really) no place like home!

‘Emperor’s New Clothes’- When you’re fabulous, you know it, and aren’t afraid to show it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qFF2v8VsaA

At some point in your college career, you’ll realize that you are more amazing than you ever thought. It could come when you stop putting up with drama, learning to fend for yourself, or finally learn how to do your laundry. All of these things give you a sense of empowerment, like nothing can stop you. Keep up the amazing work, don’t let anyone else bring you down and you can do amazing things! And we all have Brendon Urie to thank for that.

‘Death of a Bachelor’- When you finally meet the right person

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R03cqGg40GU

Ah, romance, the subject of many songs of yore and today. The title track of the album is a sweet, lovely tune describing how someone who’s played the field for a while can suddenly change their ways after falling in love with that special someone. This may take a little while for some, or it may come right away, but when it happens, it might just be the best thing in the world.

‘Crazy=Genius’- When you’re trying really hard to win over that one person

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLPTNumhyAY

After many years of seamlessly getting along with everyone (or so you thought), you finally find that person who seems to despise your every move. It could be a professor, a classmate, someone you thought was a friend, or all of the above. You put in so much time and effort to get along with this person, but they just don’t seem to reciprocate. It may be hard at first, especially if you like them, but you’ll be okay! Just keep doing you and don’t care about what they say, and you’ll be golden!

‘The Good, The Bad, and The Dirty’- When a falling out doesn’t end well…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu55xS1TdoU

Well, maybe you should have known he/she wouldn’t be in your life forever, but it’s not the end of the world! People drift apart for a reason, even if we don’t know why. If things don’t end as you imagined, just keep your head high and know that you’ll be okay!! Other people will be around, and they may just help you through!

‘House of Memories’-  When trying to preserve all the best memories so far

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuliCkN2oic

You’re not quite done with college yet, so you still have some time to live it up and let the good times roll! The best memoris come around when you least expect it, so you may not even realize it when they’re happening! Time goes by fast during college, with classes, friendships and more, so keep up with everything by taking lots of pictures keeping everything you hold dear during this time close to your heart.

‘Impossible Year’- When senioritis finally kicks in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6XHLcIGESY

Although the song doesn’t QUITE describe the trials and tribulations of senior year (capping, leaving school, getting a job etc.) it does talk about how some times of our lives are tougher than others. Senior year (and sometimes earlier) is one of those times when craziness is all over, work is piling up and all you want to do is watch Netflix. Remember: DO NOT GIVE UP! The best (graduation) is yet to come, and it will be worth it in the long run!

‘Golden Days’- Looking back on college around/at/after graduation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooEv1cH97HA

Wow, you never thought it would come to this, did you? Your time at college is coming to a close, and you can’t even imagine how the time went by so fast! With formals, finals, and *gasp* graduation coming up, it’s hard to imagine how amazing things were as an undergrad, and how great life will be post-grad. You try to believe that things will never change between you and your friends, even though you’ll have jobs, possibly s/o’s, and totally different lives. Although things will defianly change, the memories won’t, and always keep your golden days close to you.

*BONUS THROWBACK*: ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ – When your roommates are just being a straight up pain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc6vs-l5dkc

Well, it had to be included somehow! Panic!’s first hit from 2006 can totally describe the trials and tribulations of having roommates. This tune also takes note of the best way to handle agruments with the people you share living quarters with- poise and rationality! Just keep that in mind, as we leave this #throwback from the band’s early days (and their original line-up) for you guys to enjoy!
