Getting into the Fall Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

It’s almost as though the moment the calendar flips to October, pumpkins are out and everyone is getting ready for this time of year. Here are some fun ideas to keep you in an autumn state of mind.

  1. Paint your nails with some autumn designs! This is such an easy way to get into the October spirit. Every time you look down at your hands you will be reminded of fall. Some cute nail art ideas might be pumpkins, ghosts or a super simple candy corn design!
  1. Decorate your room. Get some fun orange string lights and hang them around the room. You can even get a miniature pumpkin, or hang some spooky Halloween decorations on your door!
  1. Buy some candy. October is the time when every childhood dream comes to life—stores are filled with candy! Stock up on your favorite treats to share with friends, to hand out on Halloween, or to snack on while you study.
  1. Change your lock screen. This is so simple and it will make a huge difference! Make your lock screen a cute photo of pumpkins, leaves, candy corn…anything that reminds you of fall! Every time you look at your phone (so at least fifty times a day) you will get an extra dose of autumn spirit.
  1. Add some scents. Since candles aren’t allowed in the dorms, substitute with some scented Febreeze or other scented room spray. Your room can smell like autumn leaves or fresh apples and yes, there is actually pumpkin spice Febreeze. So autumn.
  1. Go apple picking.  Plan a fun trip with your friends and head to a local farm and go apple picking. You can also pick pumpkins and take cute pictures for Instagram, of course!
  1. Go to a haunted house or hayride. Check around for local haunted attractions like a house or hayride. These can be really creepy but very fun.
  1. Bake some pie.  You can use your apples from apple picking to make a classic apple pie or you can bake a pie of your choice! This can be fun to do with friends and it’ll make the room smell delicious.
  1. Carve or paint pumpkins. Buy some pumpkins and bust out your artistic skills! You can either carve them up or take the simpler and safer route and paint them with some fun designs!
  1. Wear flannel and cute beanies. Flannel is not only super comfy, but it also screams “October”! So many stores, like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe, are all ready for autumn with new colors and fashions so it’s the perfect time to Octoberize your wardrobe.
