Puerto Rico is facing devastation after Hurricane Maria struck as a Category 4 storm, making it the third strongest hurricane to ever hit the United States. 100% of Puerto Rico was left without power as a result, and eleven days after the storm hit, power is still out in most places. At least 16 people have passed due to this storm, and citizens are left with very limited supplies.
San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz spoke at a recent news conference stating, “We are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency and the bureaucracy.” Federal support has not been sufficient in aiding victims in Puerto Rico. There have been many donations from companies and celebrities, but everyone needs to step forward in order to make a real difference.
