Campus Cutie: Nick Bayer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Year: Junior

Major: Political Science with a Concentration in International Studies

Minors: French and Music

Hometown: South Windsor, CT

HC: What is your post-grad dream career?

NB: Ideally, I would like to do something in international service. I don’t know if that means that I’ll become a diplomat or go into some kind of an organization like the UN or Amnesty International that does humanitarian work but something like that.

HC: If you could live in any city, which would it be?

NB: London. 100 percent. After studying abroad in London, I fell in love. It’s the greatest city in the whole world. Both because of its culture and its history and it’s really fun but also they’re really on point with what’s going on in the world today and they’re very politically aware and globally aware. And the people are really great. So London, 100 percent.

HC: Hypothetically, what song would you serenade a girl with?

NB: Bruno Mars. “Just the Way You Are.” Is that lame?

HC: I don’t think it’s lame! Do you have a go-to cheesy pickup line?

NB: No, I don’t have a go-to cheesy pickup line. However, I typically use puns a lot so if I were to use a cheesy pickup it would probably involve some stupid pun, I would imagine.

HC: How did you get into music and theatre?

NB: When I was about four years old, I began children’s theatre locally at home with my sister and the two of us have stuck it out since then pretty much. I started playing trumpet when I got to sixth grade and then when I got to high school, I joined the select choir there. But I had been singing through theatre and lessons before that.

HC: Why did you start the Marist College Model UN on campus?

NB: It began when myself and two other students who have since graduated sat down and said, “Hey, we want to have a UN club on campus just to raise global awareness and talk about current events and just become more active members of the global community.” So we do things like go down to New York City for the day and go to the UN; we throw parties for the Scottish referendum which is happening on Thursday. And we just have discussions and sponsor speakers and all that stuff. So I’m passionate about that and think everyone should join, of course.

HC: What’s your favorite Marist moment so far?

NB: The thing is I feel like my life here is just one crazy, funny, awkward and hilarious story.

HC: That sounds like a great tagline for a TV show.

NB: A memoir.
