Whats in My Bag: All the Essentials You Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

This summer, one of the things I learned was the importance of organizing your bag or purse and making sure you have all the items you need or could possibly need. I compiled a list of items that I make sure to always keep in my bag and that I believe most women should have with them when they go out.

Mace/ pepper spray/ taser

This is number one on the list because it is important to remember to carry around the items you need to keep yourself safe at all times, particularly when going out.

Med Kit

This is more interpretive depending on the items you believe are important medical items to carry. For example, I carry a smaller pencil case in my bag which contains tampons, pads, bandaids, ibuprofen, wet wipes, gauze, and tums.

Hand Sanitizer

Even without COVID-19, it is always necessary to carry around hand sanitizer for when you ride the train, go out to eat, meet new people, etc.

A Snack

For me personally, I think it always helps to carry around some kind of little snack for emergencies. A granola bar, trail mix, or fruit are great examples of easily transportable snacks.

A Journal and a Pen/ Book

Depending on your preferences a journal and/or book is always a nice thing to have with you for when you get bored on the train or during a long wait. It is also always good to have paper and pen just in case you need it!

Chapstick

I am a strong believer that you can never have too many chapsticks in your bag.

Keys

Needs no explanation- don’t forget your keys!

An Extra Mask

It never hurts to carry an extra mask if you have one. Oftentimes people drop or lose their mask and need an extra one to get back into their building or into a store.

Headphones

It’s always helpful to have headphones on hand for the train or just for a long wait.
