Living in NYC is not cheap. It is especially difficult for college students who are paying for tuition, housing, textbooks, and food. However, what most college students don’t know is that the student ID you are forced to carry everywhere is actually quite helpful in saving money. There are several museums, entertainment, events, and stores that offer discounts to students who show a valid ID. Here is a list of some of the most popular:

Broadway Shows: Seeing a Broadway show is a must-do when living in NYC. Luckily for you, student rush tickets are available at most shows when the box-office opens.

New York Botanical Gardens: The beautiful garden, located right next to Fordham, is a great study break only a 35-minute bus ride away. They offer a discounted grounds-only ticket for students with a valid ID (and it is a great photo opportunity!)

Lincoln Center: The famous performing arts center in the UWS, Lincoln Center offers student discounts on tickets to several of their performances, including jazz, ballet, and the philharmonic.

The MET: Their famous “pay for the amount you want” rule has recently been abolished, except for NYS residents and students. If you have an out-of-state friend visiting, NJ and CT students may also still pay however much they please, or if they’re a student in a different state, they get a discounted $12 ticket.

MoMA: While the free Uniqlo Friday nights are currently suspended, you can still get a discounted $14 ticket to visit.

These are just a few of the many discounts you can get in NYC as a student. You can also check out the app Unidays for other student discounts on chain stores and restaurants. Make sure to always ask stores, events, and institutions if they offer a discount, it never hurts to ask!
