If you are unfamiliar with accutane, it is basically the last resort for any guy or gal who has had troublesome skin. The daunting part of the accutane is the side effects: dry lips, dehydrated skin and so forth. But I have the little fixes to make your experience that much more enjoyable.
If there is one essential that I have to recommend to anyone, it is a little pot of vaseline. Carry this around with you daily. Trust me, you are going to be applying it by the hour. Otherwise, your lips are going to feel like you ate buffalo wings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Throughout my senior year when I was on accutane, I would whip out my obnoxiously large “vat” of vaseline that the girls in my class would make light-hearted jokes at. Also, it is so inexpensive and I prefer it to any lip balm on the market!
Second, what is going to save your face as it goes through a drought is the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. I would usually do this two or three times a week before I went to bed after freshly cleansing my face. Also since your skin will be so dry, it can cause flakiness when wearing makeup such as liquid foundation and concealer. If you apply this mask the night before you will not have to deal with the awkward skin texture.
Lastly, when you are on accutane you can’t use any harsh acids that would typically treat acne. Never apply anything with Salicylic acid or Benzoyl Peroxide, otherwise, it may burn your skin. The same goes for waxing your skin and it may happen for six months after you finish the treatment, so opt for threading for the time being. Due to this dilemma, I recommend using my favorite gentle cleansing duo: the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser and Ultra Repair Cream. You can even buy the mini versions of these products for just $12 each and that lasted me almost three months, or if you invest in the full size it can last up to six to eight months. Now, nearly eight months later after finishing accutane, I still love these products just as much and use them daily.
