Products that Changed My Makeup Game

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

I went crazy makeup shopping in August. Since it was the start of a new school year, I figured my makeup collection needed a little replenishing. I knew I needed face makeup – concealer, foundation, primer, and maybe some lipstick. I spent what felt like decades trying to figure out what foundation, concealer and primer would be best for me, and watching countless YouTube videos in the process. The products I ended up purchasing had some of the best formulas I’ve ever tried.

NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation

This product goes for $49 on Sephora.com and, in my opinion, is definitely worth the money. When I was looking through different foundations, I had in mind one that would look more natural rather than heavy and full. I wanted a foundation that almost made it look like I wasn’t actually wearing foundation. My skin tends to get really red, so I was looking for a foundation that could cover it up while not blanketing my entire face with heavy product. It goes on smoothly and looks good with both a foundation sponge and foundation brush (I use a foundation brush) and lasts all day. This is easily one of the best foundations I’ve ever tried, and it looks beautiful on the skin.

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer

This concealer goes for $30 on Sephora.com. It is definitely different than any other concealer I’ve ever tried. It isn’t in a tube-like most concealers, instead, it’s in what looks like a pot. It’s a cream concealer that offers a soft matte look on the skin. I use this concealer to hide my dark under-eyes and redness on days that I don’t want to wear foundation. This offers a natural look and covers blemishes and dark circles really well. This concealer is perfect for days when you want to go for a no-makeup look without foundation. You apply it and rub it in with your fingers and it looks perfect. I use this concealer almost every day and I’ll definitely be purchasing again.

Milk Makeup Hydro-grip Primer

This primer goes for $15 if you buy the mini and $30 if you buy the full-sized product. I absolutely love watery, hydrating primers. I saw this product get a lot of hype on social media and decided that I had to try it. I ended up purchasing the mini and I have no regrets. I think it’s such an amazing primer and it gives you a burst of hydration on the skin, and definitely grips onto your foundation. A little goes a long way with this primer as well, so you don’t need to use too much product.

These three products literally changed my makeup for the better. I’ve gone through lots of foundations, concealers and primers but these three definitely have a special place in my heart. In August I was obsessed with minimal makeup looks, and these products help me achieve that. The NARS Soft Matte Complete concealer is great for those who want to cover up redness, blemishes or dark circles while still giving you a natural-looking finish, and the NARS Radiant Longwear Foundation is perfect for those who want to wear foundation but want a soft, natural finish that’s going to last you all day. If you try these products, I hope you love them as much as I do!
