Typically, a college spring break consists of letting loose at a resort with drinks, DJs, pools, beaches, and thousands of other college kids. This spring break, I did enjoy the warm weather but not in a typical college spring break setting.

I took a trip with my mother and visited my grandparents down in Florida. Family has always been something that has been important to me, and I am fairly close with my grandparents. However, I usually only spend time with them in the summer and never truly get to spend that quality one-on-one time with them, as the time I spend with them is usually with my cousins, uncles, and aunts as well. Yet, this spring break I got the chance to and found it very beneficial.

From relaxing with my grandparents by the pool, going out to dinner with them, and meeting a bunch of their friends, I got to learn about what they do in their daily lives during the winter. This gave me a new perspective on life and what I want my life to be like in the future.

My grandparents have stayed fairly social as they have new exercise classes and social events each and every day. I believe that their social and active lifestyle choices have allowed them to live this long and stay healthy. From this, I have learned the importance of staying social and active in one’s elderly lives and plan to lead a similar lifestyle when I am their age. Although spending spring break with one’s grandparents doesn’t sound to be too appealing at first, I found it very enjoyable and I will cherish the memories we all made together this Spring Break.
