When you have a business casual event or you have to just go to your everyday job, it is important to learn how to dress business casual.  Business casual isn’t always the cutest and comfiest thing.  Thinking about wearing business casual clothes can be stressful, but I am here to give ideas about what to wear: how to be cute, cozy, and stylish.

I am a go-to dress girl. Wearing pants during the warmer months is sometimes unbearable.  It is important to wear a dress that isn’t too short, I find dresses above the knee so I know it won’t raise to be extremely short when I sit down.  Wearing dresses is a perfect way to be comfortable during the summer months because you won’t be sweating in pants and your outfit will be a little bit more airy.

For business casual attire, I always suggest adding a pop of color.  This makes your outfit more exciting.  I love colorful pants or even pants with patterns.  This seems like it may be hard to match with shirts, but I buy a bunch of plain color shirts to wear with different pants.  I own Barbie pink pants, which I always get so many compliments on, and I can wear it with any plain shirt.  My go-to plain shirts are white, black, and gray because those colors match every outfit.

I also love a patterned shirt with plain dress pants.  I own navy blue dress pants and black dress pants.  These are super easy to dress up or dress down.  I can wear either a plain shirt (long sleeves or short sleeves) or I can wear a really cute patterned shirt.  I love to go with florals or stripes!  This elevates your business casual outfit by just adding a little bit more than a plain outfit.  Additionally, if you do end up wearing a plain outfit, like plain pants and a plain shirt, you can add a blazer to the outfit.  This blazer can be colored or have a pattern to make the outfit more exciting to look at.  This blazer can be left unbuttoned to make a plain outfit look business casual.

For shoes, I go with boat shoes during the warmer months or a pair of plain black boots for the colder months.  I have the boat shoes in multiple colors because they keep my feet cool when it is warm outside.  These boat shoes also look cute with a dress and any dress pants.  The boots are really easy to match with any outfit because I bought black ones that go over my ankles.  This keeps me warm during the winter because I am able to wear fuzzy socks under my pants and no one can tell!  I love to be comfortable when I have to dress up!  It is also super adorable to wear a nice pair of flats or short heels.  This will definitely make the business casual outfit elevated and stylish.

I used to be so nervous to dress business casual, but now it excites me!  I never knew how exciting it could be to create business casual outfits.  Business casual outfits don’t have to be boring like I once thought they had to be.  I love colorful outfits and pairing color with the basic outfit, creates a really cute business casual outfit.  I know that so many people love a pop of color in any business casual outfit and it will make any event or day at work much more enjoyable!

Manhattan '24

Hi I'm Emily! I am in my Senior Year at Manhattan College, graduating in Spring 2024. I am studying Childhood Special Education with an upward extension to middle school with a double major in English. My goal in life is to teach elementary school and later on, teach middle school. Although I don't have a position in my Her Campus chapter, I am still an active writer for Her Campus! I write about all different topics for Her Campus, anything that interests me or that I believe other girls will find useful and informational. I am a team captain on the Manhattan College cheerleading team, so I may write about that sometimes. I also love sorority rush season so I have written about my sorority a few times. I believe that Her Campus is an amazing source for women to put their work out there and influence other girls. I love being a part of this organization and being able to write about whatever I love. This is the best outlet for me to learn more about my writing style, experiment with different topics that I would not be allowed to write about in a class, and grow as a writer.
