How To Take Advantage Of The Resources That Manhattan College Offers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

As Manhattan College is such a small school, there are endless amounts of resources, programs, and opportunities available. As a sophomore and a tour guide, I have had the chance to explore the different ways to truly take advantage of my undergraduate experience at Manhattan. Here are some of the ways that I have utilized the resources that are offered to us as students…

Center for Academic Success

On the third floor of Thomas Hall, the Learning Commons houses the Center for Academic Success (CAS). Within this office, there are tutors and writing consultants available to help with any subjects or papers you may have. I have utilized the free tutoring sessions for homework, and writing consultants to edit and revise my paper with me. They are so helpful and always willing to work with you to better your work and understanding of any topic.

Center for Career Development

Across from the CAS in Thomas Hall, is the Office of Career Pathways, which houses the Center for Career Development. This office is amazing for helping with internships, interview prep, and resume and cover letter writing. Within the office, there are peer career advisors, who are students that help with all the services the office has. In the past, I have brought my resume and cover letters to a peer career advisor, they read it over, gave me feedback, and I was quickly and easily able to submit my job application.

Office Hours

A great way to better your studies, understanding of topics, and build connections within your field, is to get to know your professors. The benefit of going to a small school and having small classes is the ability to get individualized attention and help from your professors. In addition to talking in class, office hours are a useful way to get help on your work, as well as talk to your professors about your career goals and how to get there. Professors are required to have at least three hours of office hours a week, therefore you have more than enough time to attend their office hours and strengthen your relationship.

As a student at Manhattan College, you should do your best to get involved and utilize all the resources at your disposal. All of the administrative staff and professors are here to help you and want to see you succeed. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and use all Manhattan College has for you!!

Manhattan '23

I am in my sophomore year as a psychology major at Manhattan College.
As an avid lover of all things writing related, Christine is a born story-teller. She is a junior at Manhattan College majoring Public Relations and minoring in Marketing. When she’s not writing, you can find her exploring NYC, binge watching The Office, or enjoying a good cup of tea. She joined Her Campus after transferring to MC and absolutely fell in love with it! She is currently the Campus Correspondent of her chapter, and hopes her articles can entertain and inspire women everywhere. After college, she plans to continue writing and hopes to publish a book one day. Be sure to check out her college lifestyle blog Christineeve.com!
