Christmas time, although it can be one of the most exciting parts of the year, can also be one of the most stressful. Preparing for family gatherings, decorating the house, and most importantly gift-giving. Gifts can be one of the most tricky things to manage for certain people because you want to get it perfect for everyone. One of the most challenging people I have found to give gifts to is my mom. I mean, how can you give someone who gave you life something that can compare? I have learned that anything that you do for them they will appreciate, whether it is doing chores around the house, helping out with your siblings, or even just spending time with them. However, if you are more of a physical gift giver, here are a couple of ideas that they will love.

The Handy Mom

Sometimes the moms get crafty! My mom in particular loves to do house projects and build different types of things. A gift card to Lowes or Home Depot is always one of my go-to’s because it allows her to get whatever she wants. It makes it a little easier on you because you do not have to beat around the bush to figure out what she wants.

The Relaxed Mom

With how much moms do, they need a relaxation day more than the rest of us. Getting your mom a coupon for a massage or a day at the spa might be just what she needs after a long week of work and parenting.

Another great idea for a mom who needs some TLC is a little homemade cozy basket. Go to your local Target or Walmart and find a cute basket, then, pick out a nice cozy pair of fluffy socks and comfy slippers. Grab a snuggly blanket, get a couple of bags of candy or chocolate, some face masks, a candle or two, and plop her down on the couch for the day. During her time of relaxation, take your family out for a couple of hours and let her enjoy the silence in her normally crazy house. Trust me, she will thank you!

The Adventurous Mom

Some moms are the opposite of relaxed and like to get up and go! One of my mom’s favorite gifts is a pair of Balega Socks, which add a variety of benefits to their comfort. They are great socks for running, hiking, and even just walking. Another good idea for an outdoorsy mom is to take her on a hike or nature walk. Sometimes, the best gift is just spending some quality time together out of the house.

All in all, gifts for mom are important, but there is no need to stress about them. As long as you show her you love her and spend time with her doing things that you both enjoy, I am sure that she will appreciate it.

Fiona Dunkel

Manhattan '26

Hi, I'm Fiona! I am a Psychology major and a hopeful future Psychiatrist. I am an undergrad at Manhattan College from Albany, NY. I live with my parents, a little sister named Charlotte, and a dog named Cassie. I am an avid crime show watcher and romance reader. I LOVE coffee and going to little cafes around the city to try out different drinks. I used to play very competitive soccer but stopped due to injury and now my hobbies include spending money on very expensive skincare products and buying overpriced iced lattes. I hope to study abroad within the next two years to be able to broaden my view of the world and learn more about different cultures! My dream is to go to Spain and watch a professional soccer game. My passion for writing started when I was in 3rd grade. I was constantly reading books of all genres and lengths and I wondered if I could write my own. I wrote little songs and mystery "novels," short stories, and poems whenever I could. In the sixth grade, I was recognized for my efforts and one of my poems was to be in a gallery at a nearby college. It jumpstarted my love for writing and ever since then I have constantly written down my thoughts, as well as written and published a book for my English class which was very exciting! I love writing about just about anything, especially when it comes to female empowerment and things I am interested in!
