Here’s Why I Joined Her Campus, and Why You Should Too

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

Being at a new school is hard. I started here at Manhattan College last semester, midway through the school year as a transfer student, which was, well awkward. How was I supposed to jump in halfway when everything was in full swing? Everyone here already knows the campus well, has their own friends, and has been part of clubs since they began in the fall.

The one thing that everyone advised me to do when I was transferring was to get involved. And I mean EVERYONE told me that, time and time again. I would nod my head and politely listen, not really taking into account how helpful their advice would be. But because my experience at my first school didn’t really work out for me, I took that advice hopeful that my time at MC would be different. It’s always hard being new, but I encouraged to hit the ground running and get involved because it would help with my adjustment to a new place.

When I first heard of Her Campus I was instantly fascinated by it. I wasn’t exactly sure what it was at the time, but I soon learned that it was an online magazine targeted towards college women that features articles based on fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and current events.

This is perfect for me, I thought. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved to write and envisioned myself writing for a glamorous magazine one day–– HC seemed like the perfect start. I personally like writing more feature focused articles where I can share my input and opinions with others, and that’s exactly what HC s is. Before I knew it, I began writing articles nearly every week for the HC site, and I was absolutely loving it. HC opened doors for me to improve as a writer and network with the international organization.

I was loving all the professional opportunities, yet little did I know that joining this organization would be one of the best decisions I made in my college career. Yes, it’s impressive to be part of the #1 global community for college women, but it’s also given me so much more than something to put on a resume.

Her Campus at Manhattan is a community of hard-working, like-minded women who endlessly support each other. What I loved most about joining, is that everyone is friends with each other and we all have fun with it! All in all, Her Campus became a great community for me to fall back on when starting out at a new school, and it will continue to be with my time at MC.

So why should you join HC?

You’ll get to be part of an amazing group of women who empower, inspire, and support each other in all aspects of life. And you’ll have a lot of fun getting to know and work with the HC team. In the long run, joining HC will serve to benefit you both professionally and socially.

If you feel intimidated, you shouldn’t be. A lot of people are apprehensive to join because they don’t think they’re good at writing, but you don’t have to be. Advanced writing skills are not a requirement! You can write about anything you want, and we do mean anything! Writing should be fun, and if you find a topic you’re passionate about, writing will come easy to you.

So, I encourage all of you reading this to join Her Campus. HC already holds a special place in my heart and it can in yours too!
