Manhattan College is a smaller private school with a little less than 4,000 students. Do you ever wonder what is is like to be associated with Greek Life? Within the last few years, we have seen more and more students joining the sororities and fraternities that we have on our campus. This takes place every single semester. As a whole, Greek Life at Manhattan College works together to support school events, anti-hazing, and volunteering. They also have their own events such as Greek Olympics in the spring semester to get everyone together, involved, as well as having fun! So, why not take a minute to get to know them? Maybe you will find yourself wanting to join the family–whether it’s the brotherhood or the sisterhood. As a sorority girl myself, I must say the bond you make with your sisters, as well as the others involved in Greek Life, is simply irreplaceable and cannot be found anywhere else on this beautiful campus!

  • President: Allison Mangan.

Her Campus: What do you love about being president of your sorority?

Allison: “My road to presidency was a little strange. I was first treasurer, then our VP went abroad and I stepped up to fill in while she was away. Once elections came, I decided to run for president. I really wanted to give back to the entity that gave me something so special. As president, I feel a greater connection to the girls. I wanted to make a difference in the sorority and on campus. I love having a hand in each committee and seeing out sisters work hard to make us better each day. I really could not ask for a better group of girls–they make my presidency so easy! Plus, it also helps when I have an amazing VP (who is also my little) and a great executive board!”

Her Campus: What do you think makes your sisterhood so great?

Allison: “What makes our sisterhood special is the bonds we have with each other! Our pledge process emphasizes getting to know the sisters as well as your pledge class. We have been around for over thirty years, so we take tradition very seriously! One of our many traditions is the People Auction, an event where people can auction themselves off for things such as tutoring or cooking and all the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society!”

Her Campus: What do you love about being president of your sorority?

Emily: “I love being president of Sigma Delta Tau because it has easily been the best experience I have ever had. I have not only grown as a leader since I took this position, but also as a sister and an empowered woman. I love the connections I’ve made nationwide with sisters, advisors and the national headquarters. But, my favorite part about being president of SDT is the other 39 girls I have supporting me as well as each other 24/7!”

Her Campus: Why should anyone join Sigma Delta Tau?

Emily: “If you love giving back, then you should definitely join SDT! We do everything possible to raise awareness for our three philanthropies Women For Women, JWI, and PCAA. You form a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime with incredibly empowering women not only from Manhattan College but from all over the nation.”

It has helped me academically in school, which lead to me having an internship over the summer with one of the largest office landlord companies in the city! Since it has given so much to me, I put it upon myself to give back by helping my chapter grow.”

Her Campus: What makes your brotherhood so special?

Alex: “Delta Kappa Epsilon is a truly life-long allegiance. The ties that bind us together stop not at graduation, at state or national boundaries, at political or philosophical lines, or even in war. That love which comes from the combination of stout hearts and kindred interests is truly special; it lasts while life lasts! Our fraternity was founded in Spring 2012 and was brought by our founder, Ian Ferrara, from Penn State. In this short amount of time, we have grown to 50 plus members and we continue to grow semester after semester. We have brothers from various majors and most of our brothers are in honor societies. We are not only scholars but we like having a good time by going to Chipotle or going to the city to enjoy out fraternities club which has a private library, hotel, gym and amazing terrace view of Grand Central!”
