Some of us have hit the big 20 and some of us are approaching there. Essentially, we are all entering this new decade of life and want it to be the best time of our lives. In light of this topic I hope all of you grasp the advice I have gained from my family and advisors, in order to accept or reject what is needed in your life as you approach this new decade.

1. Map Your Efforts & Keep Your Eyes On The Prize

As we get older, we immerse ourselves in many different tasks throughout the day which often causes our dependency on caffeine or even a burnout for the rest of the week. Here’s what you should do:, buy a journal or planner and plan your week out. Make time throughout your day for “me time” and diverge from life. Keep tabs on your short- term and long- term goals as well. You do not want to be stuck in a cycle of work and school, and fun nights out with no progression of your personal goals.

2. Follow the Example of a Mentor

We are still young and just now beginning to grasp the real world. Whether you know your goals in life or not,  find a mentor and emulate. You can find a mentor that is already in the career field or decipher all the powerful people you have admired in history. When we emulate the good habits of successful people that we admire,  we begin to develop those habits ourselves and sets the foundation for us to grow and learn beyond our potential.

3. Own it

We all make mistakes and fail every step of the way in order to reach our goals. People tend to give up after the first failure out of disappointment and low self- talk. Whenever you’re at that point think of J.K Rowling who lived on welfare before she wrote one of the most iconic series. Oprah Winfrey got fired as a news anchor. The man who invented the lightbulb, Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.” So the next time you fail, own it and do not be afraid to talk about it with others. Sometimes when we fail and learn about our friends or advisors failures we are stimulated to not give up because those who had failed around us were able to succeed anyway.

4. Have Fun!

This is your time, you have one life to live. Make sure you live the life you envisions and live it fabulously. Where there is a will there is away. Do not get engulfed trying to parallel your life with your friend who travels around the world depicts their life on social media lavishly. Just remember when it is their time to work hard you will be done and ready to travel and live as you want because you put in the time at an early age.
