Best Spring Activities In NYC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

I know that when the warm weather hits I can’t wait to spend a day out in the city. It’s finally the perfect time to walk around from place to place without freezing. Here are some of the best way to spend this Spring season!

The Met Cloisters

Only about 20 minutes from campus by subway, the Met Cloisters are a great place to visit this Spring. The combination of indoor and outdoor art exhibits are beautiful locations to spend your day. Like the Metroplitan Museum of Art itself, the Cloisters have a “pay what you can” policy for students in New York. Enjoy walking through the gardens, and see the famous unicorn tapestry that is displayed here. Fun fact: West Side Story (2021) filmed a scene here!

Central Park Picnic

One of my favorite spring time activities is having a picnic with my friends. Take the subway to central park, lay down a blanket, and enjoy some snacks in the warm weather. Some of the best locations for a picnic include Great Hill, Great Lawn, and Sheep Meadow. If you go to one of these open areas you can also play games, like many others in the park, to fully enjoy the beautiful weather.

Botanical Garden

Another location in the Bronx that is just a quick drive from campus, is the New York Botanical Garden. In spring, many of the beautiful flowers here have bloomed, and there are also various exhibits that can be visited. Their website sorts different flowers by time of year, and you can see what is beautiful right now.

See A Broadway Show

There are so many great shows on Broadway right now, and there is never a bad time to purchase a ticket to a musical. Some of my favorite musicals on Broadway are Dear Evan Hansen, Moulin Rouge, and Six. There are also exciting plays in NYC currently. Some that I really like are Take Me Out, starring Jesse Williams, and Birthday Candles, starring Debra Messing.

Outdoor Dining

One thing that NYC definitely knows how to do right is outdoor dining. There are some great rooftop restaurants open this Spring, such as Cantina Rooftop, Serra at Eatily, and Refinary Rooftop. There are also various cute outdoor dining displays, such as The Waverly Inn, Pinto Garden, Ladurée Soho, and Rubys. Here you can enjoy a nice dinner while enjoying the beautiful weather, accompanied by gorgeous designs created by the restaurants.

Outdoor Movie

There are so many places in the city that do outdoor movies when the weather is warm. One location is the Rooftop Cinema Club, located in Midtown, where you can watch a movie under the stars with a beautiful view of the city skyline. Another location is the Skyline Drive-In in Greenpoint. The location is originally a drive-in movie spot, but there are also lawn seats available for anyone who doesn’t have a car. Both options are great if you want to experience a movie with a view.

If you are looking for outdoor activities to do with the warm weather then NYC is the perfect place to find them. The city truly has activities everywhere you turn. I hope some of these ideas can get you started!
