The Best Eats Around Manhattan College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m tired of dining hall food, is to explore the different restaurants and delis around campus. This is not only a good excuse to get to know your area, but to find some great dining options as well. Therefore, if you are new to Manhattan College and the Bronx, or you’re a current student who just hasn’t gone out that often, that’s why I am here to tell you about some of my favorite restaurants in the area!

1. Mon Amour Coffee & Wine

Located on 238th street and only a 10 minute walk from the main campus, Mon Amour is one of my favorite cafés in the area. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but if you are ever in search for a quiet place to sit and do homework, or sip on a warm cup of tea, Mon Amour is the spot. It is also a great breakfast/brunch spot that provides delicious and fresh baked goods, such as an incredible vegan banana bread.

2. Gourmet Market & Deli

There has always been much debate regarding which deli has the best paninis, smoothies, or bagels, but I stand with Gourmet 100%. Open 24/7, this is my go-to deli if I ever have an early morning and have to grab something on my way into the city, or after a long night out with friends. My absolute favorite thing to get is egg and avocado on a toasted whole wheat bagel. Another bonus is that if you bring in a reusable cup, they are happy to fill your juice or smoothie in it!

3. Broadway Joe’s Pizza

Broadway Joe’s is a small family establishment with some of the friendliest staff on Broadway. Much like the delis, the presence of various pizzeria’s in the area often leave people debating which establishment truly has the best slice. Even though I don’t eat cheese, the staff is always happy to accommodate and that means more delicious garlic knots for me! This is a great spot to grab a slice on the go, or sit down and enjoy some quality food with good company.

4. Asian Tokyo

Even though it may not look the most attractive on the outside, Asian Tokyo has some of my favorite handrolls in the area. If you ever want to order take-out or delivery, you won’t have to worry about waiting for very long because it is right down the hill. They have a great selection of rolls, soups, and stir-frys that won’t break the bank!

5. Kingsbridge Social Club

The last, but definitely not least, mention that I wanted to make sure to include is Kingsbridge Social Club. Although not usually fan favorite, they have some of the best crispy brussel sprouts I have ever had! Even if you do not like brussel sprouts, these are worth the try. Kingsbridge is also well known for their delicious variety of personal “pies” that you can customize anyway you like. I did not find this out until recently, but if you do not eat dairy like I do, you can ask for no cheese on any of the pies or bring in your own vegan cheese for them to make the pizza with!

Honorable mentions: Greek Express, Tortoise & the Hare, Leche y Miel, An Beal Bocht Cafe, and Jasper’s Gourmet Deli (a.k.a. J-Del)

I hope you all enjoy some of these establishments as much as I do! I have always enjoyed going out for meals, no matter what time of day, especially when I get to share in the experience with friends. I am fortunate enough to have such a wide variety of choices in my area that in case I ever want to change things up, I have plenty of options.
