The Best Christmas Activities in NYC

As the saying goes, “There’s Christmas, and then there’s Christmas in New York City.” It’s pretty well known universally that Christmas in New York City is world famous.  It’s shown in so many movies and talked about around the world. If you get to visit during the holiday season, or you’re lucky enough like us at Manhattan College to live here, there are so many Christmas activities to do, that it can sometimes be hard to narrow down the best options. Here is what I think though, are the essential Christmas activities in New York City.

The winter village at Bryant Park: A classic and seasonal favorite, Bryant Park at Christmas really has something for everyone. The whole park is converted into a winter wonderland complete with an ice skating rink. There’s also holiday shops and various food vendors from all over the city to complete your holiday shopping!

Tour of the window displays: Every year during the holiday season, all of the high end shops on 5th avenue decorate their windows with lavish Christmas displays. The most famous of these is Macy’s and Saks 5th Avenue. You can actually take a guided tour of all the Christmas displays, or walk up and down and see for yourself! It’s an essential part of the New York City Christmas experience.

Go see the Rockettes at Radio City: The world famous Rockettes put on their Radio City Christmas Spectacular every year from November to January. This show is truly unique and a once in a lifetime experience. You can also find cheaper tickets on discount websites if you’re on a budget

The New York Botanical Garden Holiday Show: The New York Botanical Gardens does a yearly exhibit where they remake famous New York City Christmas landmarks and buildings entirely out of plants. There is also a railroad and Christmas lights that run throughout the exhibit. It is truly spectacular!

Go to the tree lighting: An obvious one, but the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is truly a sight like no other. It’s a truly special experience with everyone gathered around watching the tree get lit up with thousands of lights and standing miles high!
