I don’t know if it’s the fact that school is approaching or if it’s the thought of winter being a few short months away, but August quite literally gives me the “Sunday Scaries”. Going on my third summer with what I like to call the “August Scaries”, I’ve created a list of things you can do to help relieve the stress of summer ending (at least a little)!

  1. Spend As Much Time As You Can Outside!

This might be obvious if you’re someone that spends basically all of summer at the beach, but if you’re like me you have to literally MAKE time to see the sunlight. Don’t let this summer go without spending some time catching some rays. Not only will your skin thank you, but your mind will too. When it’s February and blizzarding you’ll wish you were somewhere on a warm beach so take advantage of the sun while you can.

  1. Create a To-Do List for Your Upcoming Responsibilities.

I know no one wants to worry about responsibilities on summer break, but I promise that having them organized and ready to tackle will relieve a lot of unnecessary stress. It’s much easier to remember all of the things you need to pack for school when you have them written down- especially if you save packing until the very last minute! Do something that your future self will thank you for.

  1. Do More of What You Love.

This one is cheesy, but it’s helpful. By focusing on the things you’re passionate about, it’s easy to take your mind off of the things you’re stressing yourself about. Keep yourself busy! It’s much easier to make time for your passions on a summer night than it will be when you’re studying for an exam next month. It’s important to make time for the things that bring you joy.

  1. Literally Just Get Over It.

This isn’t the first time that a summer is ending, get over it! Sure, it sucks that it has to go but it will be back again next year. Instead of sulking over the fact that real life starts up again soon, appreciate what you have while it’s here. Incorporate more things that make you happy into your life and everyday will start feeling like summer- maybe with an exception for the weather.

August might mean that summer is coming to end, but that doesn’t mean that all of August has to suck. Live in the moment and only focus on the future when it benefits you! Summer will come again, but take advantage of what’s left now. All’s well that ends well!
