Little Christmas Treats on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manchester chapter.

1. Chocolate Brownie Christmas Trees

After many home-bakes arguing with icing sugar that doesn’t want to stay in the bowl, I have come to the conclusion that Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix is the BEST brownie mix out there. Just add an egg, oil and water and bake in the oven at 180°C until the top is crisp and the middle is still gooey.

To Christmas-up these gorgeous chocolately treats, add candy canes and green icing for heavenly home-made gifts.

2. Homemade Mulled Wine

Okay so this method may not be entirely “homemade” but at Her Campus Manchester, we believe that using the microwave makes anything crafted by hand.

Step 1 – Buy Sainsbury’s mulled wine for £2.99.

Step 2 – Pour contents of bottle into a microwavable pot for 2 minutes (this may vary according to how hot you like it!)

Step 3 – Decant hot wine into wine glasses.

Step 4 – Enjoy!

You’ll be pleased to know it’s that simple!

3. Door wreath

The beauty of homemade wreaths is that you can make them totally personal to you and your friends. Want to make a lovely little present for your Mum this Christmas? Find out which flowers/leaves/berries she likes and make up a wreath of all of her favourite things. You can buy polystyrene wreaths from various stores such as hobbycraft.co.uk or amazon.co.uk. These are great, as you can poke in berries, mini decorations and whatever else you can get your hands on!

DIY genius.

4. Candy Cane Brittle

This is a super simple method that will take 5 mins max.

Melt white chocolate, throw in some crushed candy canes and lay out flat in the fridge on a lined baking tray. Break up for some gorgeous Christmassy chunks.
