5 Things We Love About Manchester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manchester chapter.

All the bars

Font, The Alchemist, The Botanist, Trof, Vodka Revs, the list goes on. Manchester is home to some of the best bars in the north – why do you think the students love it so much here?! Whether you’re looking for a classy night out or just somewhere for a few casual drinks, Manchester has bars all over the place so there’s no need to look far. Most of them even do food so you could combine dinner and drinks!

Northern Quarter

Ask any student around Manchester and they’ll probably tell you one of their favourite places is the Northern Quarter. Host to independent cafes and restaurants, shopping areas like Affleck’s Palace and small boutiques, it also has many clubs and bars with brill nights out. It may seem a little daunting at first as it isn’t City centre, so go with a friend or two and have a look around!

Christmas Markets (and all other events this city holds!)

Manchester is home to so many brilliant events and festivals and shows and concerts… The list is literally endless. However one of our favourites is definitely the annual Christmas Markets, where 300 odd stalls come to Manchester from all around Europe. Starting the 14th of November, the Christmas Markets have been the place to go whether you want a girly night out or a cosy date night with some mulled wine!

The University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is a stunning collection of buildings surrounding the south of Manchester City. As an old city, it’s better to look up than to look down in Manchester, to see all the amazing red brick architecture. Old libraries, museums, and even some of the lecture buildings date back 100s of years and allow us to call Manchester Uni one of the most beautiful Universities in the UK!

The weather…

So this one may not be entirely true, but Manchester does get the occasional beautiful day! Even if the sun may turn into rain later in the day, there are still plenty of parks, outdoor spaces and gardens to sit in and soak up some extra Vitamin D in preparation for the 360 rainy days to come.

Manchester Art Gallery

An extra one as the weather didn’t really count… For our little dose of culture, the Art Museum offers free various galleries to wander around each month, an easy way to soak up a bit of culture and to make the most of having all this free time as students!
