Key date for your diary – 1st October 4-8pm.

In order to make the most of one of the best student events of the year, the Her Campus Manchester team have put together 4 top tips for how to shop at a student lock-in.

1.     Set a limit for the day. Yes your student loan may just have come in, and yes those £60 skinny jeans are now only £48 but you have a term of food and nights out to pay for… it is only October, and your sister will not appreciate a handmade Santa decoration for Christmas!

2.     Arrive early to bag prizes and freebies. Most stores will advertise free goods and competitions giving away mega deals. It is important to note the tiny * next to the writing. Almost always, these prizes will be limited and only a lucky few early-birds will be in with a chance of walking away with a complimentary garment from your favourite store. Arrive EARLY to avoid disappointment.

3.     Lay out the foundations in the week running up to the event – target specific items and try them on. This way you will save time (and a stressful Topshop changing-room) by knowing what colour and size you want before smugly, and calmy, heading to the checkout-desk.

4.     Take all your girlfriends along. This is an easy excuse for a girls night-out, and a great way to get to know your new flatmates if you’re a fresher. It’s not only fashion stores that offer double discount for students at the lock-in, many local bars and restaurants will also be giving you money off. Take full advantage of this; stop off for a few cocktails mid-shop to re-energise. The Arndale will provide you with the perfect place to host a girly night of fashion, freebies and fun.
